Zella Mae Hintz

Zella Mae Hintz, 83, of Chariton passed away on January 27, 2021. Services will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., with a visitation to be held prior from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton, Iowa. Memorials may be made in care of the family. You may join the family by watching the service at the following link: Zella Mae (Haines) Hintz was born to Zella Ruth (Howard) Haines and Alva Glenn Haines in Iowa City, Iowa on May 9, 1937. She was the youngest of six children. Her parents were blessed with two sons and four daughters. Zella spent most of her life in Lucas County, Iowa. She attended Lucas School for eight years and graduated from there in 1959. Her class was the last to graduate from that school, as the school closed due to not enough children attending. Most of her adult life, Zella lived in Chariton. She worked at the Gross Galesburg Overall Factory for many years. She later became the Office Manager for South Central Iowa Community Action Program. From there, she chose marriage to William A. Hintz in 1970 and in 1971, became the mother of James W. Hintz and a full-time housewife. She was a loving wife and mother and cared for her folks' needs. She became a Christian in 1977 and was faithful to her belief. Zella enjoyed crocheting afghans and embroidering. Her main hobby was making all kinds of greeting cards, especially for birthdays. Those left to cherish Zella's memory are her son, James Hintz; a sister, Evelyn Craig; sisters-in-law: Jeanette Hines and Gloria Hintz; her nieces and nephews: Audrey Montgomery, Diana Schmiedtke, Janice Diefenthaler, Keith, Roy and Dale Haines, Randy and Steve Turner, and Ellen Jackson; and many friends. Zella was preceded in death by her husband, William Hintz; parents: Alva and Ruth Haines; her siblings: Kenneth Haines, Daryl Haines, Glyda Kent, and Doris Oldham; and brothers-in-law: Roy Kent, Ed Oldham, and Harold Craig; and nephew, Bill Montgomery.
