Walter Thomas Belzer

Walter ?Bus? Thomas Belzer, age 76, of Albia died Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born July 18, 1929 in Eddyville, Iowa to Adrian and Alice (Adair) Belzer. He married Mildred Scott on September 8, 1946 at Mildred?s parents home in rural Eddyville. He was a graduate of Eddyville High School, Class of 1946. Walter had worked as a crane operator. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Albia, the Operating Engineers Local #234, and the Masonic Lodge of Oskaloosa, Iowa. Walter is survived by his wife, Mildred of Albia; one daughter, Lynn (Paul) Reese of Hedrick, IA; and one son, John (Carol) Belzer of Ames, IA; 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Vernon Belzer of Ottumwa and Bill Belzer of Kirksville, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one daughter, Sheryll Ruegsegger. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 10, 2006 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Christian Church in Albia with Rev. Lynda Carlson officiating. Cremation will follow the service and private family burial of cremains will be held in the Hayden Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will open after 9:00 A.M. Thursday, February 9, 2006 at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia with the family present from 6-9 P.M. Thursday evening. Casketbearers will be Joe Ruegsegger II, Scott Belzer, John Ruegsegger, Brad Norton, Mike Herrera, and Chuck Derby. Honorary Casketbearers will be Tom Belzer, David Belzer, Rick Belzer, Nile Belzer, Bob Day, and Bob McKenna. A memorial has been established to the First Christian Church Youth Groups in Albia.
