Vivian Scott, 94, of Melcher-Dallas, passed away on September 25, 2015, at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. A graveside service will be at the Dallas Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30th. Vivian was born October 17, 1920 at the family home where she still resided at the time of her death. She is preceded in death by her parents: Tom and Amy (Berg-Powell) Scott, and siblings: Margaret Scott Hiatt, Henry Lewis Scott, Kenneth Scott, Ruth Scott Mays, John Scott, Naomi Scott Kirfman, and Amy I. Scott Fortune. Surviving are her sister, Hannah Verwers; sister-in-law, Kay Shroyer Scott; brother-in-law, Jim Fortune; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Lieutenant Colonel Vivian Scott was a retired Air Force Reserve officer and a veteran of three wars. She served in the Army during World War II; the Regular Air Force during the Korean Conflict; and the Air Force Reserve during Vietnam War. She graduated from Drake University in Des Moines with the degrees of Bachelor and Master of Science in Education. She also completed a series of Civil Defense Preparedness courses and twelve military courses; including the Air War College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. She served in the military for 32 years. Vivian was known as Marion County's first WAAC and as a scholar, soldier, teacher, paralegal, entertainer, and writer. She recently published her third book and completed a manuscript for her fourth. Besides writing novels she also wrote songs. She enjoyed sewing, reciting monologues, playing the harmonica, and traveling. In 2010 at the age of 90 she flew the Honor Flight to Washington D.C.
