Virgil Daverne Lambirth

Virgil “Daverne” Lambirth passed away unexpectedly at his home on February 21, 2022, in Humeston Iowa at the age of 79.
Daverne was born on January 15, 1943, in Oskaloosa, IA to {Ralph and Virginia Lambirth}. He graduated from Bussey High School in 1961. He married Carol Elaine VandenBrink, his high school sweetheart in 1963. After settling in Knoxville IA, Daverne began a long career as a truck driver. Over the next couple of years, the couple were blessed with two children, Todd and Melissa, and Daverne worked many long hours and days to provide a good life for them all. His children remember him as a kind and gentle man who encouraged them in everything they pursued. His love knew no bounds when it came to his family, and they always knew they were deeply cherished by him. In 1974, Daverne surrendered his life to the Lord, and this forever changed who he was and how he lived his life. He was able to touch many lives through his kind and generous spirit.
Daverne enjoyed life and had many hobbies and interests that kept him and his family busy in their free time. Drag racing, boating, and skiing on the local lakes, and enjoying his children’s school activities occupied his early years, while street rodding and being with his grand children were later life joys of his. Over the years, Daverne and Carol called Chandler, AZ, What Cheer, IA, Frytown, IA and finally Humeston, IA home.
Daverne is survived by his wife, Carol “VandenBrink” Lambirth from Knoxville Iowa. They had two children, son Todd Lambirth from Lucas IA, his family, wife Kari “Ellis” Lambirth, their two (grand)daughters Shae Whisler (Justin) of Des Moines, Karli Farrell (Chris) and great grandson Luke of Lucas, IA. Daughter Melissa “Lambirth” Ashton from Solon IA, her family, husband Ned Ashton, and their two children Matthew Ashton from Champaign, IL and Alexis Ashton of Solon. Daverne had two brothers and one sister. Richard, his wife Connie, Terry, his late wife Diane, and Sherrie Lambirth Moore and her husband L.E and many nieces and nephews. Daverne was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Virginia Lambirth of Rural Bussey IA., and sister-in-law Diane Lambirth from Attica.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Joseph Brown officiating. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Daverne’s life. A private family burial will take place at Gullion Cemetery in Attica. Following services, a luncheon will be held at Countryside Event Center, also in Attica.
