Tyler was welcomed home by sisters: Kimberly, Karen, and Kellie. At the age of four, Tyler's parents adopted his two-year-old sister, Stefanie. Tyler began his school years in Chariton and was involved in sports and school plays. He enjoyed his time in Patch Club at Grace Baptist Church. At age 14, the family moved to Grinnell where he attended high school and graduated with the class of 2000. Tyler was very active in sports. His favorite was tennis. He especially cherished the memories of the mission trip they took to Colorado with Pastor Ken and Joanna Fields. Tyler attended Iowa State University 2001 through 2005, studying business. After leaving Iowa State, he worked various jobs in Iowa before moving to California to start a new chapter in his life. In 2010, after meeting new friends and working different jobs, he joined Genentech Biotechnology Company as an audiovisual specialist.
