Tom Jones passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Goldenrod Manor in Clarinda, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 10 days. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton, Iowa. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chariton Christian Church DOC. Thomas Henry Jones was born May 16, 1927 in Albia, Iowa, the son of Thomas H. and Louise (Saunders) Jones. Tom grew up in the Albia area and graduated from Albia High School in 1945. Following high school, he served his country in the United States Navy. He later attended Drake University in Des Moines and obtained his pharmacist degree. On November 23, 1950, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Hickenlooper in Albia, Iowa. This union was blessed with two children, Miki and Marty. Tom worked as a pharmacist his entire life. He owned pharmacies in Knoxville and Chariton. He was a proud member of the American Legion for over 70 years. He served on the Lucas County Water Board, Lucas County Health Board, Midwest Heritage Bank board for over 20 years, and was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce. Tom was also a member of the Christian Church in both Albia and Chariton. He loved to play golf and take family vacations every year with his children and grandchildren. Tom loved playing pitch with his friends most weekday mornings. He was a very loved and respected man. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Louise Jones; his parents-in-law, Carl and Mildred Hickenlooper; his step father, Everett Wynes; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Carol Kausalik. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Jones of Chariton, Iowa; his children, Miki Sperry and her husband David of Clarinda, Iowa, and Marty Jones and his wife Becky of Maryville, Missouri; five grandchildren: Morgan Sperry of Kansas City, Missouri, Kelen Sperry and his wife Sarah of Clarinda, Iowa, Whitney Markut and her husband Cory of Malvern, Iowa, Malorie Hall and her husband Brad of Waukee, Iowa, and Genesee Jones of Kansas City, Missouri; six great grandchildren: Sydney and Landry Sperry, Xander and Liam Markut, and Emery and Holden Hall; along with two nieces, a nephew, other relatives and many friends.
