Thelma J Young

Thelma Juanita Young, age 85, passed away at home on August 13, 2020, doing what she loved...working in her garden. Celebration of life services will be held on Wednesday, August 19 at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton, IA at 2 pm. Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service at 1 pm. Interment will be at Brushy Cemetery, Plano, IA. The service will be streamed live at Thelma was born September 23, 1934 in Dalhart, TX to Thomas and Margie Runyan, the youngest, with 5 brothers. The family moved to Iowa when Thelma was in 5th Grade. She graduated from Amity High School in College Springs, IA. Thelma was widowed in 1960. Thelma married Steve Young November 11, 1978, also becoming his business partner for their fertilizer/farm chemical enterprise. She wore many hats, from driving trucks to accounting. She loved cats, dogs, birds, gardening, especially vegetables and roses, and did we mention cats? She is survived by her husband, Steve Young; son, David (Diane) of Chariton, IA; son, Dennis (Georgene) of Polk City, IA; nine grandchildren: Bradley White (Amy) of Gig Harbor, WA; Amy Kuzniar (Brian) of Chicago, IL; Tony Peterson (Jessica) of Biloxi, MS; Lauren White of Grand Junction, CO; Caleb White (Kari) of Raleigh, NC; Jared White (Breann) of Duluth, MN; Jake White (Elissa) of Ankeny, IA: Jenna Slagter (Bryent) of Wilmar, MN; and Cody White (Jazmine) of Polk City, IA; 15 great grandchildren, with 2 more expected in February, 2021; a brother, Don (Bessie) of Gravette, AR.
