Steven Lee Clark, 65, of Tracy, passed away unexpectedly at the Pella Regional Health Center on Thursday, September 23, 2021.
Steve was born on December 8, 1955, to Eugene and Marcella (Mefford) Clark. He graduated from Twin Cedars High School in 1974. Following graduation, Steve went to work at Vermeer Corporation in Pella. He retired in 2019 after 46 years. After retirement, Steve continued to work for Vermeer part-time.
Steve married Rose Marie Russell on June 20, 2009, at their cabin on the Des Moines River surrounded by family and friends. They loved each other deeply. The two spent the last 14 years enjoying each other's company, traveling and spending time with their family and friends.
Saying Steve loved the outdoors was an understatement. He enjoyed hunting turkey and deer and catching catfish on the river. It didn’t always matter the size of the fish he caught; he was just happy to be outdoors. Steve also liked to give people a hard time. He was always quick and witty with a comeback.
Most importantly, Steve loved to be at the river with his family and friends. Campfires and cookouts over every holiday were well attended and enjoyed by everyone. He had the kindest heart and would drop everything to help a friend, family member or neighbor. He will be extremely missed by everyone who knew him.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Floyd Hols; first wife, Julie Avon, and brother, Stanley Clark.
He is survived by his wife Rose of Tracy; children, Jeff (Jodi) Clark of Albia, and Tonya (Larry) Verwers of Newton; step-children, Mindy (Chris) Hanen of Oskaloosa, Shane (Sandi) Courtney of Milan, MO, and Ryan (Stephanie) Roberts of Beacon; brothers, Danny Clark, and Dennis Clark; 3 grandchildren, Jordan, Lexi (Alex), and Jake (Kelsie); 4 step-grandchildren, Chelsey (Shay), Makayla (Shawn), River, and Kaylee; 1 great grandson, Neeko; and 1 step-great grandson, Karter.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
