Stephen Alexander Mckay

Stephen Alexander McKay, age 64, of Des Moines, Iowa, (formerly of Knoxville, Iowa), passed away on Monday, July 4, 2022, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Steve’s wishes were to be cremated. Visitation for Steve will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. with his family present to greet friends and relatives. A Celebration of Life will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 A.M.
Stephen Alexander McKay was born on April 25, 1958, the son of Robert C. “Bob” and Patricia Lorraine (Bass) McKay, in Knoxville, Iowa. Steve grew up in Knoxville and attended Knoxville Schools, graduating with the Class of 1976. Steve was united in marriage to Lisa Rowley in February of 1983. They were married for 12 years and were blessed with two children, Kenny and Staci.
Steve was employed at DC & Associates for 30 years. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, golfing, (a former Sole Survivor champion), and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Steve’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, Corbin and Ayla. They had a special nickname for him “Papa Mac”.
Those left to cherish Steve’s memory include his daughter, Staci (Taylor) Fjelland; brothers, Dan (Becky) McKay, Bob (Cindy) McKay, John (Donna) McKay, and Chris McKay; sisters, Pat Kvistad and Margaret Souva; grandchildren, Corbin and Ayla; also, several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Steve is preceded in death by his son, Kenny McKay; parents, Bob and Patricia McKay; sister, Kathy Swank; and brother, Mike McKay.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Steve’s memory to his family.
Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville is assisting Steve’s family with arrangements.
