Stephanie Lynn Shenefield was daddy’s little girl before she was even born. When Brenda was expecting her, Stephanie would kick anytime that Steve was around. She was born September 6, 1983, and was a perfect baby, as long as dad was home. Stephanie shared a birthday with her great grandmother, Mabel Edgington.

Stephanie grew up in the Chariton area, the youngest of three children. Her big brothers, Jason and Joel were happy to have a little sister. They both promised mom and dad that they would never fight with her.

Stephanie was shy as a child and always stayed close to mom and dad. She was a talented athlete and active in sports, which helped her come out of her shell. Once she got over her shyness, she would talk to anyone. Stephanie attended vacation bible school throughout her childhood. Around the age of six, she accepted Christ into her heart and was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Chariton.

Stephanie attended all but one year of elementary school in Williamson. She spent her fifth grade year at Columbus Elementary in Chariton and continued her education in the Chariton School District.

Stephanie was always a hard worker, organized, and a bit of an over-achiever. She often held multiple jobs at once. For example, she worked at Conoco in Corydon, babysat, and taught swimming lessons, all while she was in high school. She was a very good swimmer and enjoyed working as a lifeguard at the Chariton Family Aquatic Center. Stephanie once saved a child from drowning while working at the pool. Her love of water may have come from family trips to the lake. She loved spending time out on the water and was a bit of a dare-devil when water tubing.

Every morning, at 5:00 a.m., Stephanie would wander into the kitchen to have breakfast with her dad. This tradition started when she was young and continued all through her school years.

Stephanie took several college classes while still in high school. She was a proud Chariton Charger. Cross country and track were her favorite sports, as she was always passionate about running. Stephanie graduated from Chariton High School in 2002 and went on to attend Simpson College in Indianola for a year. While there, Stephanie set a record in track and served as co-captain of the track team.

In the fall of 2003, Stephanie moved to Florida to take a personal training course. Once she was certified, she returned to Iowa for several years to work as a personal trainer. Stephanie then moved back to Florida where she worked various jobs. She worked to prepare meals at the VFW, worked part-time at Papa Joe’s, and cleaned houses. Just recently, Stephanie had started her own LLC for professional cleaning. Stephanie also worked especially hard these last couple of years to finish her degree. She was so proud of the progress that she’d made towards her goals.

Stephanie was blessed with two boys, Dreavin and DeAngelo. Her boys meant the world to her, and she looked forward to every moment spent with them. Their trips to the beach and the movies were some of her favorite memories. Stephanie and her boys were also avid sports fans and enjoyed watching the Atlanta Falcons, the Oregon Ducks, and the Boston Celtics.

Stephanie passed away June 9, 2022. She will be dearly missed by her sons, Dreavin Shenefield and DeAngelo Shenefield; parents, Steve and Brenda Shenefield; brothers, Jason (Tarra) Shenefield and Joel (Meagan) Shenefield; nieces and nephews: Peyton, Braydon, Preston, Addison, Sadie and Zoey; aunt, Linda Kliewer; uncle, Roger Ansley; aunt, Patty (Cecil) Stevenson; uncle, Bruce (Debbie) Ansley; aunt, Deb Jones; and great aunt, Mary Fyrn Jackson; along with many extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Leroy and Maxine Ansley; and her paternal grandparents, Gerald and Dorthea Shenefield.
