Stanley was born March 21, 1935, to parents John and June (Tyrrel) Patrick, in rural Mahaska County. Stan was raised on the family farm in rural Bussey and during school he played baseball, basketball, and football. He graduated from Bussey High School on May 15, 1953.
After high school Stan worked on the family farm until he enlisted in the United States Army. Stan served his country from January 28, 1955 to January 25, 1957.
After his service Stan went back to farming in rural Bussey and in August of 1959 Stanley and Karen Vanderhorst were united in marriage. Stan and Karen were blessed with three children: ‘][Shari, Sheli, and Scott. They later divorced.
Besides his family, Stan’s other love was the Chicago Cubs. He never missed listening to a game on the radio. He would visit relatives in Indiana and travel to baseball games on the “el” train to watch his beloved Cubs. One day on the “el” he met his favorite player, Ernie Banks. Ernie signed his autograph on Stan’s paper bag lunch that he had taken to the game. It was a great blessing that Stan was able to watch the Cubs finally win the World Series in 2016. Stan was also a loyal Hawkeye fan, he enjoyed playing cards with his neighbors and he liked to dance. Stan was a devoted father and grandfather who would always attend his children and grandchildren’s activities.
Stanley is survived by his three children, Shari Roberts (Rusty) of Marysville, Sheli McDonald (Tim) of Knoxville, and Scott Patrick of Pershing; nine grandchildren, Adam Roberts (Megan), Brenden Scott, Trevor Roberts (Kairee), Jarrod Lee (Whittney), Dylan Lee (Allison), Dalton Lee (Tanya), Landon Patrick, Kenzie McDonald (Austin), and Kennedy McDonald; eight great-grandchildren, Kenzyn, Holden, Dexter, Emberlyn, London, Elijah, Adelia, and Kaelynn. Stan is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
