Shirley Donigan

Shirley (Neer) Donigan, 85, of Derby, passed away March 16, 2024. A visitation will be held Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. No other services are planned at this time. Rick's request is for memorials to be made to the Pierschbacher Funeral Home to help carry out her final wishes.

One of twelve children born to Glenn and Tina Neer, Shirley was born November 29, 1938, in Lacona, Iowa. She attended school in Lacona and then married the love of her life, Dwain Donigan. They were blessed with three children: Rodney, Norma, and Rick. Dwain was in the Air Force for 21 years and after he retired from the Air Force, they ran the Chariton Airport, selling fuel, supplies and maintaining aircraft. They then moved to Candendington, Missouri where Dwain was from and ran the airport there. Shirley eventually moved back to Iowa and settled in Derby. She enjoyed driving the Amish, as she always wanted something to do. 

Shirley enjoyed the outdoors, and you could always find her working in the yard or sitting on her porch. If you did stop to see her, there would always be a snack waiting for you, or she would ask you to stay for a meal. She loved to cook and bake when she had the opportunity.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Dwain in 1986; son, Rodney; grandchildren, Melissa and Joseph; and siblings: Melvin, Marvin, Doyle, Don, Dean, Darrell, Ronald, Arleen Slack, June Freeman, Mona Evans, and Donna Branson.

Surviving are her children: Norma McQueen, Rick Donigan, and Hal Donigan; grandchildren: Nikki, Dusty, Joshua, and Jacob; and 6 great grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
