Sheryl Rae Karr

Sheryl Rae Karr, 69 of Ankeny, passed away on August 6, 2023, at the Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines after a short battle with cancer. A private graveside service will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville, Iowa.

Sheryl was born in Knoxville to Leland and Frieda (Harvey) Karr and attended Knoxville High School where she graduated in 1972. She retired in 2010 after working for 32 years at the VA Hospital, initially in Knoxville and later in Des Moines.

Sheryl is survived by her husband, Kerry Bern of Ankeny, IA; children, Christopher Mart of Des Moines, IA, daughter, Carey (Shawn) Gilchrist of Knoxville, IA, son, Joshua (Melissa) Estabrook of West Des Moines, IA; stepson, Eliot (Melissa) Bern of Nashville, TN; two brothers, Steve Karr of Knoxville, IA and Gordon (Diane) Karr of Robinson, TX; grandchildren, Tyra Villalobos of Altoona, IA, Halle Gilchrist of Knoxville, IA, Josie Mart of Des Moines, IA, Brenna Mart of Des Moines, IA, Cameron Estabrook of West Des Moines, IA; and step- grandchildren, Jacob Bern and Evelyn Bern, Nashville, TN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Frieda Karr.

Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Knoxville, IA has been entrusted with final arrangements.
