Sharon Kay Carbee Kline was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on May 14th, 1943 to John Carbee and Edith Kramer, where she spent her childhood with siblings John and Judith, and eventually gave birth to two sons: James (1963) and Jonathan (1968).
1972 brought a new adventure for Sharon, when they moved to southern Iowa and she devoted herself to her community. Along with her family Sharon brought Lake Rathbun to life with their bait shop and social gathering place known collectively as the Irish Cove. It was there where she established her social butterfly reputation.
She served on the board of directors for the Rathbun Area Health Services focusing on the expansion of clinics to surrounding areas. It was during one of these such expansion missions in Humeston that she met the mayor, Kenny Kline, who would later become her husband. Sharon and Kenny married in 1985 and would spend her final 36 years together.
Committed to her community Sharon spent 11 years on the Indians Hills Community College Board of Directors. She was proud to help make affordable education accessible to all of Southern Iowa. Even as her health declined and she spent more time in hospitals, she would get a kick out of learning which nurses received their training at Indian Hills.
Perhaps one of her most favorite accomplishments came from her time as Chamber Director for the Chariton Chamber of Commerce, where she coordinated bus tours of the area that would stop at Gingerich home for an Amish Lunch. During her 23 years of service to the Chamber she organized a youth chamber group, and hosted an annual hayride at her Lake Rathbun home.
Sharon never met an animal she didn’t immediately fall in love with, which led her house to become a temporary or permanent home to over 300 stray dogs throughout the years. Most of which she found loving homes for, and sometimes that home was right by her side. The love for animals didn’t stop with dogs, on her and Kenny’s farm they enjoyed horses, llamas, goats and cats.
Above all else Sharon loved her family, and while she did her best to avoid having her picture taken at all costs, you could easily see the pride she held for her grandchildren in the photos hanging on her walls.
Sharon passed away at the age of 78 on February 2, 2022. She is survived by her loving husband: Kenny Kline; sons: Jim (Lori) Jensen, Jon (Julie) Jensen; stepson: Kendal (Deb) Kline; grandchildren: Brian Jensen, Michelle (Matt) Jensen, Dylan (Linka) Jensen; and siblings: John Carbee, Judy (Guy) Bishop. She was preceded in death by her stepdaughter: Kelly Kline Castro (2012); and stepsons: Kevin Kline (1987), Karry Kline (1982).
