Sandra "Sandy" Kae Nicholson

Sandra “Sandy” Kae Nicholson, age 69, of Bussey, Iowa, passed away at her residence on Sunday, September 18, 2022.
Sandy was born on October 18, 1952, in Knoxville, Iowa, the daughter of Bobbie and Betty Smith. Sandy attended Twin Cedars High School and graduated with the Class of 1970.
Sandy was united in marriage to Arthur “Art” Nicholson on June 1, 1971, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. They were blessed with two children, Toby and Abby. Sandy and Art enjoyed 51 years of marriage before her passing.
Sandy was employed at the Knoxville V.A. Hospital for several years and then worked locally at the Overall Factory and Grandma’s Cupboard. She retired from Westridge Nursing Home as an assistant activity’s director.
Sandy enjoyed bird watching and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed taking them on the four-wheeler and referred to some of their adventures as “swamp monster” and “car wash”. Sandy also loved attending her grandchildren’s numerous sporting events and playing cards with her family. Sandy was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be missed by them all.
Those left to cherish Sandy’s memory include her husband of 51 years, Art Nicholson of Bussey; son, Toby (Melissa) Nicholson of Haverhill, Iowa; and daughter, Abby Mockenhaupt of Tracy. Sandy is also survived by her mother, Betty Smith of Bussey; five grandchildren, Logan and Loran Nicholson, and Ali, Ami, and Jax Mockenhaupt; also, two sisters, Sherry Silvers of Bussey, and Sheila (Chuck) Wilcutt of Knoxville.
Sandy is preceded in death by her father, Bob Smith.
Visitation for Sandy will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at the Winfield Funeral Home from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Sandy’s family will be present to greet friends and relatives from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Burial will be held on a later date at Liberty Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in Sandy’s memory to her family for their disbursement later.
