Sandra Anita "Sandy" Bowes

Sandra Anita “Sandy” Bowes, age 82, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away on Friday, July 2, 2021 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
Sandy was born on August 22, 1938 in Moulton, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd and Helen (Wood) Carter. She grew up in Moulton and graduated from Moulton High School, Class of 1957.
Following high school, Sandy moved to Des Moines and then California, where she was employed at U.S. Electric Motors in Los Angeles as secretary to the Service Manager. Sandy met and worked with her future husband, Frank Michael “Mike” Bowes in 1959. They were united in marriage in April of 1961 in Bellflower, California and were blessed with two sons, Mark and Sean.
Sandy and her family moved to Knoxville, Iowa in 1978. Sandy became employed at Lendlease in Des Moines. Sandy enjoyed antiques, loved to travel, and spending time with her family.
Those left to cherish Sandy’s memory include her husband of 60 years, Mike Bowes of Knoxville; sons, Mark Bowes (Susan) of Portland, Oregon, and Sean Bowes (Trisha Holmberg) of Newton, Iowa; two brothers, Curtis Carter and Russell Carter; five grandchildren, Hannah, Taylor, Mason, Andrew, and Lily Bowes; also one great-grandson, Bleu.
Sandy is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd Carter and Helen Funk; stepfather, Mervin Funk; and brother, Larry Carter.
Sandy’s wishes were to be cremated. A visitation will be held at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville on Saturday, July 17, 2021 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. with Sandy’s family present to greet friends and relatives. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 A.M. at the funeral home. A luncheon will be held following services. Burial will take place at 3:00 P.M. at Oakland Cemetery (also known as Garland Cemetery) in Moulton, Iowa.
