Ruth Elaine Brewster, age 81, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away Friday, April 3, 2020 at her home, surrounded by her family.
Elaine was born on February 2, 1939 in Houston, Texas, the daughter of Clyde and Adele Seckler. She grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma and graduated from Will Rogers High School. Following high school, Elaine attended Northeastern Oklahoma State University from 1957 – 1962.where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics.
Elaine was united in marriage to Stacy Brewster on September 2, 1962 in Henrietta, Oklahoma. They were blessed with two children, Leslie and Jeff. Elaine and Stacy enjoyed 57 years of marriage before her passing.
After graduating from college, Elaine worked as a home demonstration agent for Oklahoma Natural Gas Company in Tulsa. She also worked at 3M in Minnesota before moving to Knoxville. She then was employed at the V.A. Hospital for 25 years, starting her career in personnel and working her way up to the Director of Public Relations in the Director’s Office. Elaine was a loving homemaker all of her life and stayed home with her children until they started school. She was an amazing cook and talented home decorator. Elaine was a member of the P.E.O. and Friends of the Library in Knoxville. She was a leader in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. After retirement she would volunteer at Stepping Stones Early Learning Center and at the Knoxville School system.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Stacy Brewster of Knoxville; daughter, Leslie (Brad) VanderLinden of Knoxville; son, Jeff (Candi) Brewster of Knoxville; three grandchildren, Ian Martinache, Katelyn Brewster, and Ben Brewster; one great-grandson, Noah Laine; and one brother, Robert “Bob” (Julie) Seckler of Woodbury, Minnesota.
Elaine is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Adele Seckler; brother, William “Bill” Seckler; and sister, Debbie Seckler.
Elaine has been cremated. A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2020 from 3:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. at Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville. Following visitation, Celebration of Life will be held at 5:00 P.M. Memorials may be given in her memory to the local chapter of P.E.O. or Marion County Humane Society.
