Rowena R. Mills

Rowena Mills, 85, of Melcher-Dallas, Iowa, passed away October 8, 2022. A Graveside Service will be held for Rowena and her husband, Edwin, on Monday, October 24, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville, Iowa. Memorials may be made in Rowena’s name to EveryStep Hospice of Knoxville, Iowa.

Rowena Roxanne Snyder was born October 16, 1936, to Eugene and Jessie Snyder in Atlanta, Missouri. Rowena was the oldest of five children born to the couple. When she was seven years old, her family moved to Tracy, Iowa. Rowena attended school in Tracy until her senior year. She then attended and graduated from Oak Park Academy in Nevada, Iowa. Rowena met Edwin Louis Mills her senior year and the couple married on August 22, 1954, in Knoxville, Iowa. They were blessed with three children: Louis, Rhonda, and Timothy.

In 1959, their family moved to Union Springs, New York. They returned to Oak Park in 1963, as they always considered it their home. Rowena enjoyed being a homemaker, taking care of her home and family. She also kept an impressive garden. Rowena did work for a time in a business office.

When Ed retired in 1999, the couple moved to Melcher. They were members of the Knoxville Seventh-Day Adventist Church. They enjoyed family; loved traveling to visit relatives, especially their children and grandchildren. Rowena and Ed enjoyed camping, birdwatching, riding the train to California, but most importantly, they just had fun no matter what they did.

Rowena is survived by her children, Louis Mills and Rhonda Tiller; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Jim Snyder; sister, Ramona Gerry; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, in February 2022; son, Timothy, in June 2019; brother, Thomas Eugene Snyder, in June 2021; and brother, Benjamin Ray Snyder, in January 2022.
