Rose Marie Harris was born at home on a farm near Seymour, Iowa to Vincent and Viva Harris. She grew up in the Seymour area alongside her brother, Ronald, and graduated Seymour High School in 1958. During high school she was active in basketball and baton twirling. After graduating she moved to Des Moines to work where she met Bill Carpenter. They were married on July 31, 1960 and just celebrated their 60th anniversary this past July with their family. Rose and Bill were blessed with 5 children: Terry, Brenda, Diane, Tom, and Deb. Rose and Bill worked together for over 60 years on the farm. She was always working hard to make a great home for her family. Rose would not bring a sandwich to the field for Bill and the boys, but would bring a full dinner to make sure they took time to stop and enjoy. Rose just loved to cook and bake, many remember her pies, cakes, and cookies, often times people would line up at Piper's just to get a taste. She always worked hard gardening and canning, even this year they did over 100 quarts of green beans. Rose taught her family not only to work hard, but also to enjoy life, take time to laugh, and to enjoy those close to you. She loved to play games and cards and to tease with her family. She attended all her children's events as they grew up and absolutely loved to be involved with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Everyone will remember her kindness, her generous nature, and her caring for others. Rose, the giver of love. Rose passed away September 7, 2020 at the age of 80 years and 6 days. She was preceded in death by her parents: Vincent and Viva Harris, and in-laws, George and Ruth Carpenter, along with other beloved family members. Rose will be greatly missed by her husband, Bill; children: Terry (Connie) Carpenter, Brenda (Kevin) Stursma, Diane (John Braswell) Manser, Tom (Maggie) Carpenter, and Deb (Jeff) Pierce; who gave them probably her biggest joy in life, her 14 grandchildren: Kurt (Whitney), Kyle (Kelci), Emily (Cole), Tayler (Alex), Riley, Ryan (Emily), Derek (Casey), Zach (Whitney), Cody (Erin), Cassandra, Shantie, Dane, Jordan, and McKenna; and 11 great grandchildren: Kade, Weston, Kenzie, Kacie, Peyton, Taytum, Avery, Riana, Oliver, Parker, and Mylen.
