Rose Anne O'Reilly was born February 23, 1929 to John and Ella (Shope) Carroll and was raised in Des Moines, Iowa. She attended and received her RN degree from Mercy School of Nursing. Rose was united in marriage to Joseph Edward O'Reilly of Eldora, Iowa on May 1, 1954. They began their life together in Iowa Falls, Iowa, lived for a short time in Marshalltown, Iowa before calling Chariton home for more than 50 years. They moved to Omaha in June 2015. While Rose spent the majority of her adult life staying home to be a homemaker, her nursing degree came in handy while raising five children on the farm. Rose was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for many years. She had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother, which surely gave her much comfort in her last days. She loved people. Visiting with people. Encouraging people. Praying for people. Helping people; anything to do with people. As she aged a common question she asked most anyone she encountered, "Have you prayed today?" She had great faith in God and as dementia began she recognized something was happening but didn't know what it was. Her response to this was, "God has always been good to me so I'm just going to go with it!" Psalm 34. She exhibited much dignity and grace in the midst of this suffering. She lived knowing this gift could be offered up and united to Christ's as reflected in Colossians 1:24. Without hopelessness she offered this gift of suffering to God and in her need was patient in receiving service from others. Psalm 150. Jesus, I trust in you! Rose O'Reilly is survived by her five children: Mary Jo O'Reilly of Omaha, Nebraska, Kathleen (Bruce) Chester of Chariton, Iowa, Jeannie (James) Torzala of Walton, Kentucky, John (Nang) O'Reilly of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Phillip O'Reilly of Kansas City, Missouri and his friend Tammy; sixteen grandchildren; forty-one great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 65 years, Joseph O'Reilly; five sisters: Francis Knight, Eleanor McLaughlin, Margaret Brosnahan, Theresa Contri, and Agnes Jolly; and one grandchild, Jarod Chester. A Requiem Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, located at 2708 South 24 Street in Omaha, Nebraska.
