Rosabelle Moffet Shore was born in Windsor, MO on April 2, 1936 to David Luther and Ardella Shockey Moffet. The family moved to Iowa the spring of ’41 where her father worked as a farm hand. She was one of six children that grew to adulthood.
Rosie attended four different elementary schools, then to Chariton High School for all four years. It was there that she met her lifelong sweetheart, Marvin Shore and they married in May of ’54 as soon as she graduated. To this union came four children: Sherry (Emery) McDonald of Chariton, Patty (Len) Kohlman of Williamson, Keith (Ann) Shore of St. Joseph, MO, and Tina (Evan) Schreyer of Eureka, IL.
In the early ‘60s, Marvin ran the Conoco gas station on the Williamson corner. During that time, Rosie helped out by keeping the books, pumping gas, and running errands to get parts for the shop. For many years, she was a stay-at-home mom until the last child was in junior high. She worked at the Country Chef restaurant and for the Spurgeon’s store on the north side of the Chariton square.
During their later years together, Marvin and Rosie enjoyed camping and going to music jams and festivals. They met many new friends doing this. Rosie lost Marvin in September 2015.
At the loss of Marvin, Rosie moved to Homestead Assisted Living for five years where she was known as the “puzzle lady”. Last January, she moved to Southgate Apartments where she resided at the time of her death.
Rosie passed away December 1, 2021. Preceding her in death, were her parents, David and Ardella Moffet; husband, Marvin Shore; sisters, LaVern Butler of St. Louis, MO, and Della Carpenter of Falls City, NE; and brother, Harry Moffet of Dixson, MO.
Rosie is survived by her four children: Sherry (Emery) McDonald of Chariton, Patty (Len) Kohlman of Williamson, Keith (Ann) Shore of St. Joseph, MO, and Tina (Evan) Schreyer of Eureka, IL; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; brother, Marvin Moffet of Tuscon, AZ; sister, Carolyn (Robert) Burrell of Marengo, IA; and many nieces, nephews, and friends whom she loved much.
Rosie is to be cremated and her ashes will join those of Marvin in the Salem Cemetery south of Chariton.
