Ronald Woodward

Ronald D. Woodward was born November 16, 1919 to Harry and Pearl Woodward in Pierson, Iowa. Ron was the oldest of 4 children: Ron, Clair, Roy, and Jean. Ron was a graduate of Moravia High School, class of 1939 and married Doris Jean Luse in 1939. Ron and Doris Jean had 3 children: Karen (Ron) Overturf of Centerville, Ron (Diane) Woodward of Albia, and George (Kathy) Woodward of Cedar Rapids. They also had 8 grandchildren: Pam (John) Lageman, and Greg (Susie) Overturf, Peggy (David) Elliott, Sean, Shannon, and Megan Woodward, George (Cathy) Woodward, and Garin (Amy) Woodward; 13 great grandchildren: Travis and Dereck Hawk, Matt Lageman, Brooke, Jessica, and Katie Overturf, Connor, Jordan Woodward, Aaron and Alex Woodward, Xaviera Ballenger, Alyssa and Avery Woodward; and one great-great grandson, Truin Hawk. Also surviving is one brother, Clair Woodward of Wyoming and one sister, Jean Robb of Moravia. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother Roy. Ron was a 50-year member of Grace United Methodist Church in Moravia where he was the head usher for 25 years and Past President of the Kingdom Builders Sunday School Class. Ron was a great volunteer always ready to help with community, church, school and sports projects. Some of the highlights of his volunteer works were: coaching Babe Ruth, Little League, and Pee-Wee baseball teams, including being the first coach to take an Appanoose County Babe Ruth team to State; keeping the official scorebook for basketball for 25 years, past president and treasurer of Moravia Ruritan and Booster Clubs and serving on the Moravia Fall Festival for 20 years. In 1996 he received the Iowa?s Governor?s Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service presented by Governor Bransted. Memorial services will be held Sunday February 12, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at the Moravia High School Gymnasium. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Ron?s name to build a Nature Pond at the Moravia School Complex.
