Ronald Lee Meriweather

Ronald Lee Meriweather, age 78, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at the Iowa City V.A. Health Care System in Iowa City, Iowa.
Ron was born on August 30, 1943, in Newton, Iowa, the son of Handy Austin “Pete” Meriweather and Gladys “Neva” (Temple) Meriweather. Ron grew up in Newton and attended country school and then Newton High School.
Following school, Ron moved to Las Vegas and worked at a tomato plant until he was drafted into the United States Marine Corp. He served his country during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. Ron was awarded the Purple Heart with 1 Star, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.
Ron was united in marriage to Karen Frantz and to this union four children were born, Leanne, Amy, Christy, and Shawn. After his military service, the family moved to Knoxville, Iowa. Ron worked as a butcher at Allied Meats and then as a meat cutter at Bob & Ray’s Super Value. Ron later became employed at Pella Corp. and retired after 29 years.
Ron was united in marriage to Pamela Sue Holt on May 26, 1990. They were blessed with 32 years of marriage before his passing.
Ron enjoyed woodworking, training horses in his younger years and fishing. Ron also liked reading western books (Louis L’Amour books were his favorite), watching westerns (especially John Wayne movies.) Ron also loved playing poker and cribbage. He was passionate and supportive of his family. Ron will be greatly missed by them all.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Pam Meriweather of Oskaloosa; children, LeeAnne Meriweather of Clive, Amy Meriweather of Springfield, MO, and Christy (Tim) Dykstra of Pella; grandchildren, Adeline Marvelli, Gregery Street, Emma Street, Catherine Cardoza, Elizabeth Cardoza, Mark (Morgan) Dykstra, Sam (Sarah) Dykstra, Patience Dykstra, and Lisa Dykstra. Ron is also survived by great-grandchildren, Ellie, Phoenix, Harper, Grayson, Hendrix, Jordan, Kayson, and Dirk; also several nieces, nephews, extended family, and his beloved dog, Angel Girl.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Handy “Pete” and Gladys “Neva” Meriweather; siblings, Clarence Cook, Dean Cook, Lois Koontz, Paul Meriweather, Phyllis Pierce, Robert Meriweather; and his son, Shawn Meriweather.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Monday, June 13, 2022, at 10:30 A.M. at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. Following services, a luncheon will be held at Celebrate Community Church in Knoxville.
Memorials may be given in Ron's memory to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
