Robert B. Spence, 63, of Indianola, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, April 25th, 2024. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home, 201 Walnut St, Milo, Iowa.
Born on May 23, 1961, in Des Moines, Iowa, he was the son of the late Nancy Windenburg and Harry Spence.
Robert was remembered as the sweetest man, whose love knew no bounds. He possessed an adventurous spirit, a strong work ethic, and a determination that defined him. Known for his selflessness, he opened Spence's Home for Wayward Lost Souls, embracing all who needed support, exactly as they were. In the latter part of his life, Robert dedicated himself to Christ, transforming his journey and becoming a guiding light for not only his own children but for those in need of a father figure.
He cherished his role as a devoted neighbor, brother, son, father, and grandfather. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and he imparted his wisdom upon them with love and care.
Robert is preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Windenburg; stepfather, Paul Windenburg; and grandson, Jesse Tollett.
He is survived by his father, Harry (Skip) Spence; stepmother, Patty Spence; 5 children: Casie Dittmer (Eric) of Lacona, Iowa, Natoshia Nelson (Chris) of Indianola, Iowa, Clarissa Vanzee (Jerry) of Cedarville, Arkansas, Wayne Spence (Autumn) of Jacksonville, Arkansas, and David Spence (Colton) of Grimes, Iowa. He is also survived by two brothers, Randy Spence (Lou) of Van Buren, Arkansas, and Tom Spence (Jean) of Des Moines, Iowa; 4 sisters: Rhonda Taffae (Jim) of Des Moines, Iowa, Rachelle Wilcox (Tim) of Reagan, Tennessee, Sherry Smith of Urbandale, and Robyn Parker Jones of Greenwood, Arkansas. Additionally, he leaves behind grandchildren: Luke Dittmer, Ben Dittmer, Nevaeh Myers, Ashton Myers-Nelson, Harmony Spence, Charlotte Spence, Ayla Vanzee, and Rayah Vanzee. There is no doubt that many lives were touched by this kind soul, may the memories of Robert and his legacy live on through those he loved.
