Robert Roy Gibb, age 91, of Albia, Iowa died Friday, April 6, 2007 at the Monroe Care Center in Albia. He was born March 3, 1916 in Hiteman, Iowa to William and Eva (Brissie) Gibb. He married Helen Kristof on November 28, 1940 in Albia. She passed away on April 23, 1999. Robert was a graduate of Albia High School, class of 1935. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1943 until 1945 stationed in the South Pacific. He had worked for John Deere in Illinois and for John Morrell & Company Meat Packing in Ottumwa for 23 years. Robert farmed all of his life in Monroe County. He enjoyed playing cards, visiting with friends and neighbors, was an avid reader and liked to watch documentary shows, and loved to take drives through Monroe County. Several nieces and nephews survive Robert. His parents, his wife, one brother, Paul Gibb, and three sisters, Bessie Weeks, Margaret Berger and Mary Tygret, precede him in death. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia with Rev. Kevin Leveck officiating. Burial will follow the service in Oak View Cemetery in Albia. Visitation will open after 2:00 P.M. on Monday April 9 with the family present from 6-8 P.M. Monday evening. Memorials have been established to Hospice of Monroe County.
