Robert "Bob" Lee Johansen passed away at his home on Friday, March 12, 2021 at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 22 days. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Chariton, Iowa. Visitation will be held Monday, March 15, 2021 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Memorials may be made to EveryStep Hospice. The service will be available via live stream via the following link: . Bob lived a full and happy life. He was a wonderful husband to his wife, Nelda Lois McDonald, who he married on March 6, 1951. They just celebrated their 70th anniversary on March 6, 2021. The two were always together and known as a special couple around town. Bob and Nelda were blessed with six children, three sons: Robert, Jr., Randy and Ricky and three daughters: Debra, Nina and Sharon. The family moved around from Audubon, Centerville, and then settled in Chariton in 1967. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed taking many trips with them. He operated the Coast to Coast Store in partnership with his brother Leroy. Bob and Leroy were in business together for years and also operated the Coast to Coast Store in Corydon, Iowa. Bob and Nelda owned the Coast to Coast Store in Chariton until 1996, when they sold the business. Bob enjoyed being outdoors especially hanging out at the cabin with the guys, hunting and fishing. He loved attending rodeos as well. He was big into all kinds of sports and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Chariton, where he served on the board for many years. Bob loved to dance, including the Danish tradition of dancing around the Christmas tree with his large family. He loved to tell stories to the grandchildren and to anyone who wanted to sit still to listen. Bob is survived by his wife of 70 years, Nelda; sons: Robert (Glenda) of Chariton, Randy (Martha) of Birmingham, AL; daughters: Debra (Dan) of Lacona, Iowa, Nina (Stewart) of Charles City, Iowa, and Sharon of Des Moines; daughter-in-law, Pat Johansen Heinrichs of Carroll, Iowa; 13 grandchildren: Nicole, Aaron, Lisa, Adam, Jonathan, Jamie, Melissa, Andrew, Angela, Sherri, Benjamin, Hanna and Carly; 21 great grandchildren: Gabrielle, Macy, Riley Mae, Hunter, Vance, Evan, A.J., Delaney, Rowan, Charlotte, Nora, Chance, Lucy, Crosby, Cami, Vivian, Gwen, Colton, Madeleine, Mila and Maui; sister: Mildred Warren of Exira, Iowa; sister-in-law, Jeanie Johansen of Chariton; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Johansen; his parents; brothers: Everett, Waldo and Leroy; sisters: Elsie and Dorothy; sisters-in-law: Bernice, Frances and Marge; and brothers-in-law: Folmer Juel, Max Warren and F.M.
