Richard "Dick" Wallace, 85, passed away on April 16, 2024, in Avon, Ohio.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will be conducted at the Chariton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Dick's name to Open Door Christian Schools, located at 8287 W. Ridge Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035. https://www.odcs.org/support-us/

Richard Bruce Wallace was born March 13, 1939, to Robert and Gladys Wallace in Iowa. Richard was raised alongside his sisters: Sharon, Shirley, and Karen. He graduated valedictorian from Leroy Consolidated High School.

After graduation, Dick served in the Army and Air National Guard for 22 years.

On June 14, 1959, Dick was united in marriage to Margaret J. Hopkin in Chariton, Iowa. The couple was blessed with a son, Stephen. Dick supported his family by working sales for Hy-Vee Food Stores and as a hotel owner in Missouri.

Dick was very involved in his community. He was a Mason and an active member of the Church of the Open Door in Elyria, Ohio.

Dick loved to spend time in nature; hunting and fishing. He was also a skilled woodworker and always made time to hone his craft, especially after retirement. He was an avid reader of history books and good westerns. He had quite an impressive stamp and coin collection.

His grandsons, David and Jonathan, were the light of his life. He was thrilled to become a great grandpa when his great grandson, William, was born.

Dick passed away April 16, 2024. He will be dearly missed by his son, Stephen (Kari) Wallace of Ohio; grandsons, David (Whitney) Wallace of Ohio and Jonathan Wallace of Salt Lake City, Utah; great grandson, William Wallace; sisters, Shirley (Charles) McCracken of Fairfield, Iowa, and Karen (Robert) Shaw of Centerville, Ohio; brother-in-law, Lee (Sandy) Cook of Elgin, Illinois; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Wallace in 2009; parents, Robert and Gladys Wallace; and sister, Sharon Cook.
