Richard “Rick” Charles Thomas, Jr. age 62, of Urbandale, Iowa, (formerly of Knoxville), passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at the Comfort House in Pella, Iowa.
Rick’s wishes were to be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at Harvey Assembly of God Church at 11:00 A.M.
Rick was born on February 20, 1959, in Knoxville, Iowa, the son of Richard Charles and Doris Evelyn (Richardson) Thomas, Sr. Rick attended Knoxville High School and graduated with the Class of 1977. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at the Williams Air Force Base in Chandler, Arizona as a jet engine mechanic.
Rick was united in marriage to Carol Zmoos on August 15, 1981. They were blessed with two children, Trent and Tia. They later divorced. Rick was employed as a laborer for most of his working career. His jobs included Firestone, construction, truckdriving, and he retired from Quality Manufacturing Inc. in 2020. He was an avid guitar player, excellent pool player, (playing in several tournaments, including Las Vegas). Rick also enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, arrowhead hunting, and woodworking. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends, and having a good time.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Trent Thomas of Urbandale, and Tia Thomas (Jesse Stanley) of Knoxville; fiance, Michelle Hart of West Des Moines; mother, Doris Thomas of Tracy; siblings, Sue Thomas of Tracy and Chad (Stacy) Thomas of Oskaloosa; four grandchildren, Adrian, Aryanna, Freddy, and Grace.
Rick is preceded in death by his father, Richard Thomas, Sr.
