Funeral services for Richard Steil, 80, of Moravia, will be Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Lacona. Burial will follow at the Newbern Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Lacona. Memorials may be made in care of Richard's family. The service and visitation will be conducted under CDC Guidelines, which includes social distancing measures, and masks are recommended. The service may be viewed on the Pierschbacher Funeral Home Facebook page beginning at the service time. https://www.facebook.com/pierschbacherfuneralhomes/ Richard Elmer Steil was born January 5, 1940 in Polk County to Elmer and Erma (Logan) Steil. He was the 3rd of 6 children. He grew up in Des Moines and went to East High School in the Class of 1958. After high school he worked for Mid-Continent and for Squealer Feeds before moving to the Rathbun area 33 years ago and began working for the DNR. He was married to Linda Olson and they were blessed with five children: Richard, Debbie, Toni, Mark, and Kris. He was married to Linda for 49 years when she passed away in 2006. Richard loved everything outdoors. He hunted, fished, trapped, camped, looked for mushrooms and just about everything else. He enjoyed his career with the DNR until retiring. Linda enjoyed the outdoors too, and they went on many memorable fishing trips together to Canada with family and friends. His greatest love was his family, especially enjoying his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered for smiles and laughs as he teased his family. Richard passed away July 6, 2020 at the age of 80 years. He will be greatly missed by his children: Richard & Teresa Steil, Debbie & David Hood, Toni & Jim Reese, Mark Steil, and Kris & John Blackford; 17 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren; his cat Missy; and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda in 2006; his parents: Elmer and Erma; infant daughter, Marie; grandson, Greg Patterson; and siblings: Sylvia Lowe, Judy Johnson, Don Steil, Mary Ross, and Jean Graham.
