Regina "Jean" Rose Mallory

January 22, 1929 — December 26, 2020

Regina “Jean” Rose Mallory, 91, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

Jean was born on January 22, 1929 in Albia, Iowa, the daughter of John Edward and Marie (Major) Kelly. Jean grew up in Albia and graduated in 1947 from Albia Community High School. Jean married Donald L. Mallory and they raised their children, Jackie, Donna and Bob, in Attica.

Jean was a cook at the Attica Elementary before going to work for the State of Iowa in the human resource field, retiring in 2010 at the age of 81. She loved that job and only with reluctance would take a day off.

Jean was an avid sports fan and loved old western TV shows. You could bet one or the other would be playing on her television – no matter what.

Jean and Jackie were constant companions for the past three plus decades. Jean took exceptional care of her daughter, Jackie, during her numerous health battles. Jean has left us behind as she rejoins Jackie, who passed away just 18 days prior to her own death.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Donna Carter and Robert (Rhonda Sue) Mallory; granddaughters, Stacy (Russ) Tawney and Chandera Mallory; grandsons, Ryan Harris and Andrew (Brooke) Mallory; four great-granddaughters, Isabelle, Jayden, Olivia and Lauren; three great-grandsons, Aidan, Jackson and Dalton.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Donald; parents, John Kelly and Marie Kelly Sebben; two brothers, George and John Kelly; her daughter, Jacqueline (Jackie) Mallory; her son-in-law, Steve Carter; and her infant granddaughter, Chelsea Mallory.

Per Jean’s instructions, there will be no viewing and graveside services will be for family only.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Attica Methodist Church.
