Raymond Griffin

Raymond F. Griffin, age 93, of Albia died Friday, December 15, 2006 at the Monroe County Hospital. Ray was born January 25, 1913 in Dakota City, Iowa to James and Rose (McGinn) Griffin. After Ray attended school in Melrose, he worked in Des Moines. He married Marie Eileen Kosman on August 7, 1945 at St. Maryâ??s Catholic Church in Albia. Ray worked for Chamberlain Manufacturing for over 20 years. He was also a member of St. Maryâ??s Catholic Church, and an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus council #4167. Ray for several years was a little league baseball coach in Albia. Raymond is survived by his wife, Marie Griffin of Albia; eight children, Jerry (Linda) Griffin, Joyce (Gilbert) Robinson, Patty (Dave) See, Ronnie (Janet) Griffin, Dave (Cheryl) Griffin, Donnie (Sherri) Griffin, Denise (Brad) Patton all of Albia, and Robert (Carla) Griffin of Chariton; 21 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren. Ray is also survived by one brother, Pat Griffin of Des Moines; one sister, Pauline Oâ??Connor of Melrose; and one sister-in-law, Marie A. Griffin of Albia. Raymond was preceded in death by his mother and father; one grandson, Shawn Shaffer; two brothers, Louis and Manford â??Freddieâ? Griffin; three sisters, Bina McGee, Frances Mahoney and Mildred Griffin in infancy. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 18, at St. Maryâ??s Catholic Church in Albia with Rev. William Walter officiating. Burial will follow services at St. Maryâ??s Cemetery also of Albia. Visitation will begin after 11:00 A.M. Sunday, December 17 at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia. A rosary will be led by the Knights of Columbus at 4:00 P.M., Sunday, and a Christian wake service will be held at 6:00 P.M., Sunday evening. Memorials have been established to Monroe County Boys and Girls Little League and Softball or to Hospice of Monroe County.
