Phyllis Julienne Mart

Phyllis Julienne Mart, age 87, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2019 at the Comfort House in Pella.
Phyllis was born on February 26, 1932 in Flagler, Iowa, the daughter of Rene and Minnie (Carter) Descamps. Phyllis attended country school in Flagler and then attended Knoxville High School.
Phyllis was united in marriage to Ted L. Mart on May 11, 1949 at the Little Brown Church. They were blessed with three children, Sheri, Lori, and Kevin. Phyllis and Ted enjoyed 64 years of marriage before Ted’s passing on October 20, 2013.
Phyllis was employed as a telephone operator, an “Avon Lady”, and later worked in the kitchen at the Valley High School. She enjoyed playing Bridge with friends, hot air ballooning with her husband and family, and loved baking and cooking for family and friends. Her specialties included potato salad and homemade chicken and noodles. Phyllis also enjoyed playing Bingo at Homestead & Memory Care. She had a lovely voice and loved to sing.
Those left to cherish Phyllis’s memory include her children, Sheri Pettit of Bloomfield, Lori (Stan) Peterson of Knoxville, and Kevin (Deb) Mart of Knoxville; two brothers, John Emile and Mike Descamps; two sisters, Glenda Welde and Stella Cleary; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband, Ted Mart; parents, Rene and Minnie Descamps; and four brothers.
Visitation for Phyllis will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at the Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville from 1:00 P.M. – 2:30 P.M. with family present to greet friends and relatives. Funeral services will begin at 2:30 P.M. with Pastor Brent Hanna officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.
