Peggy Janice Sones, the only child born to Donald and Bernice (Manley) Sones, was born January 13, 1928 on the family farm near Norwood, Iowa. She always felt she had a happy childhood, and loved the farm home very much. Peggy enjoyed helping her parents with the farm activities; such as painting, putting in the spring crops, and harvesting the fall ones. She loved the animals and being outdoors. Peggy attended all twelve years of school at the Norwood Consolidated School. She was in the last graduating class of 1945. She started going to Sunday School on Easter Sunday when she was nine years old in 1937, and had a record of not missing Sunday School for 77 years. Peggy was very proud of this attainment. She did not miss Sunday School until 2014 when she went to a care facility. When on vacation, she would always find a Sunday School to attend. Peggy accepted the Lord as her savior at the age of 13 and was baptized soon after. She was a charter member of the Norwood Assembly of God Church and loved being involved in various church activities. She started teaching Sunday School class at a very young age and continued for many years. Peggy was a licensed minister with the Assemblies of God denomination since 1953. Peggy spent some early years traveling for her church, ministering in both the Word and music. She often ministered in her home church at Norwood during the absence of the pastor. Her church was very important to her and she touched many lives with her ministry and music. Peggy's forte was music and 'tickling' the keyboard. It was often requested of her to play the song 'Meeting in the Air'. Oh how it made you want to shout as she played so beautifully. Peggy also served on the Norwood church board for several years. Peggy was a true and caring friend to many. She loved studying the Bible and spent much time doing so. She spent some time working for the Iowa Reciprocity Board in Des Moines and Ames. She also worked at Gordon Wholesale for twenty years. During her last few years there she served as the promotional director in the sales department. Peggy loved to shop. She also loved to travel with her parents and Fran Marker. She often expressed her love for her Des Moines home. She loved gardening, and a well groomed yard was important to her. Peggy valued her cup and saucer collection, and also her other collectibles. She seemed to enjoy costume watches and dearly loved wearing hats. Her favorite foods were potatoes, pizza, pasta dishes, fruit, ice cream, and zucchini bread. Peggy was an only child, but loved being included in the large Marker family with all their Christmas, birthday, and reunion gatherings. She played her role as another sister and aunt very well. She loved it when Ryan and Amanda Mitchell and Josh Schmacher referred to her as 'Aunt Peggy'. The Marker clan mourn the loss of a sister and dear friend. Peggy was preceded in death by her father in 1999, and her mother in 2006. Their deaths came as a very difficult adjustment for her. Survivors include cousins, her church family, the Marker clan and special pal, Fran Marker with whom she shared a home. Cemetery Details Norwood Cemetery Lucas, IA 50151
