Peggy Ann Cooper Wood, age 70, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.
Peggy was born on September 17, 1950 at the Albia Hospital in Albia, Iowa, the daughter of John and Audrey (Ahn) Pettyjohn. She grew up in Albia and graduated from Albia High School. Peggy was united in marriage to Donald Cooper and they were blessed with two children, Connie and Chad.
Peggy worked as a nurse’s aide for a while and then focused her time on raising her two children. She later attended classes and earned a certification as a Dietary Manager. Peggy worked at the Mitchellville Care Center as a dietary manager and was then employed as a housekeeping supervisor at the Knoxville Hospital.
Peggy was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting, and especially liked to cook. Her family remembers the delicious Sunday dinners she would make. Peggy’s greatest joy was her family, especially her five grandchildren. She was deeply loved and will be missed by them all.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Connie Lathrop (Eddie) and Chad Cooper (Shawna); grandchildren, Lainey Carnahan (Bryan Waters), Calvin LeMar (Bri Riney), Elizabeth Cooper (Andrew Rucker), Gary LeMar (Sammy Bacon), and Jazmine Cooper; one great-grandson, William Levi Carnahan (peanut butter); four siblings, Susan Friday (Marion), Jerry Pettyjohn (Pam), Martha McBroom (Terry), and Jesse Pettyjohn; also Donald’s widowed wife, Jane Cooper.
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, John and Audrey Pettyjohn; and former husband, Donald Cooper.
Peggy’s wishes were to be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 15, 2021 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at Riverside Church in Knoxville. Refreshments will be served.
Memorials may be given to the Winfield Funeral Home, 202 E. Washington St., Knoxville, IA 50138 to help with final expenses.
