Patricia Ann Thurlby

Patricia Ann Thurlby, of Chariton, passed away on June 30, 2016 at the age of 69. Services will be Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Chariton. Interment will follow at the Chariton Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday July 8, 2016 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to the First United Methodist Church in Chariton or the Legacy Lodge. Patricia was born in Sandwich, Illinois on April 11, 1947 to Wayne and Mary Jane Tompkins. She graduated from Waterman High School in 1965 and then attended Northern Illinois University. She worked at the Dekalb Telephone Company where she met the love of her life, Ray Thurlby. They were married in Waterman, Illinois on August 21, 1971 and would be celebrating 45 years together this August. Patricia and Ray were blessed with two children: Megan and Matthew. Patricia worked for the AEA as a para-educator for 20 years and then for the Chariton School District in the 4 year old preschool. She enjoyed being a preschool teacher and seeing the kids grow and often running in to them around town. She had a heart of gold and was very caring, compassionate, and loving; often volunteering and helping others. She was an avid jewelry collector, and enjoyed going to the hospital's five-dollar jewelry fundraisers and many other jewelry sales. She had more jewelry than could be worn in a year. Patricia lived to spend time with friends and enjoyed playing Bunco and sitting on her porch or patio reading a good book or magazine. She was always cold so even in the summer her attire would consist of a sweater and capris. Patricia was also a health nut. You could always count on her to make sure you had sunscreen, washed your hands, didn't microwave plastic, or eat produce without washing it first. Her true passion was her family. She adored her children and grandchildren. She loved to watch them play sports, music concerts, and other activities. Her brother, sisters and extended family were very important and she enjoyed every moment spent with them. Patricia passed away on June 30, 2016 at the age of 69. Surviving are her husband, Ray Thurlby; daughter, Megan (Todd) Marlow and their children: Ava, Kasen, and Ainsley; son, Matthew (Kristy) Thurlby and their children: Macy, Chloe, and Colton all of Bondurant. Along with siblings: Jody (Frank) Guihan of West Burlington, Amy (Butch) Overby of Waterman, IL, Kurt Tompkins of Waterman, IL, and Ona (Ernie Swafford) Johnson of DeKalb, IL; sister-in-law, Donna Konecny of Kingston, Illinois; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
