Orphy Imogene "Jean" Bloom

Orphy Imogene “Jean” Bloom, age 97, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics.

Visitation for Jean will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with her family present at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at 10:00 A.M. Following services, military honors will be held at Liberty Cemetery in Bussey. A luncheon will follow at the V.F.W. John Myers Post #3519.

Orphy Imogene “Jean” (Green) Bloom was born on September 23,1924 in Pershing, Iowa. She attended Bussey High School and graduated with the Class of 1942. Jean joined the United States Army in the Women’s Army Corps. in 1945 and proudly served her country.

Jean was united in marriage to Wesley Burton Bloom on January 20, 1942. They were blessed with 33 years of marriage before his passing in 1975.

Jean and Wesley owned and operated the bars WagonWheel in Harvey, and RonDaVoo in Knoxville. Jean was later employed at the V.A. Medical Center and retired in 2004.

Jean enjoyed bowling, going on roadtrips with her sister, Nellie, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. Her children and her grandkids were her life and she was deeply loved by them all. Though she was 97, she was young at heart and full of wit and sass. She was the glue and foundation of her family and will be greatly missed.

Those left to cherish Jean’s memory include her children, Jo Vesey (Mike) of Indianola, Sam Bloom of Knoxville, and bonus daughter, Rose White of Harvey; one brother, Don Green; nine grandchildren, Fawn Shinn, Staci Robuck (Charlie), Traci Ellis (Ryan), Carrie Johnson (Ryan), Troy White (Kathleen), Kim White, Kristy Cushman, Todd Riggen and Jerry Jo Bloom; eleven great-grandchildren, Shaelynn, Kirsten, Kaleb, Jesse, Tanner, Taylor, Madison, Ross, McKenzie, Bailee, and Alexia; also fourteen great-great grandchildren, Brylei, Jesiah, Ava, Cooper, Kolten, Justus, Ainsley, Jennasis, Holden, Jensen, Greyson, Ruby, Waylon, and Nash.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Maude Green; husband, Wesley Bloom; two sons, Terry Bloom and Junior Bloom; four brothers, six sisters; and grandson-in-law, Ryan Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Jean’s memory to American Legion Post #168 of Knoxville and V.F.W. John Myers Post #3519 of Knoxville.
