Mona Louise Housman

Funeral services for Mona Housman of Littleton, Colorado (native of Liberty Center, Iowa) will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Lacona, Iowa. Family will receive friends prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the Cochran Cemetery.

Mona Louise Housman was born November 1, 1921, in Liberty Center, Iowa to Charles and Veva (Shupe) Needles. 

Mona lived in Waterloo, Iowa for 30 years. After Charles’ death in 1972, she moved back to Lacona for a few years. She worked for Mosher Funeral home and the store in Lacona and Melcher. After she retired, she moved to North Platte, Nebraska.

Mona worked for 20 years at Carpenter Memorial Chapel & Funeral Home in North Platte. She enjoyed volunteering delivering meals on wheels to seniors as well as at the North Platte Community Playhouse with her daughter doing costumes for 20 years.

In 2002, Mona moved to Littleton, Colorado to be closer to her daughter. In 2018, she became a member of the Christ Lutheran quilters and helped sew quilts for the needy. During Covid, she sewed 100 quilt tops together for the group to put together and finish.

Mona spent her last two years living at Bee Hive Homes of Parker, a small assisted living residence of 20 residents under the loving care of Lorin and Charles and their wonderful staff.

Mona passed away on January 23, 2024. She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Karen Sue (Richard) Herdahl of Castle Rock, Colorado; two granddaughters, Stephanie Jordan (John) of Elizabeth, Colorado and Jennifer (Darren) Nelson of Virginia Beach, Virginia; four great grandchildren: Franceska Gilsdorf and Janel, Logan & Trevor Nelson; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles (Dude) Housman; sisters, Ellen (Clinton) Adcock and Lola May (Ike) Griffith; and brother, Loyd Needles.
