Mike W. Norton

Funeral services for Mike Norton, 71, of Chariton will be Friday, January 17, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Interment will be at the Chariton Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the funeral home following the service for a time of fellowship. Family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of the family to be designated at a later date. Mike W. Norton was born September 3, 1948 to Wayne M. and Shirley Herkman Norton in Marshalltown, Iowa. His father worked for the railroad, so the family moved often. Mike spent quite a bit of time growing up in Des Moines and Trenton, Missouri. He graduated from Trenton High School in 1966. He was then drafted into the Army and served overseas in Germany from February of 1969 to May of 1970. Mike worked several jobs after returning from the service including working for the railroad. He met Leanne Sisul in Princeton, Missouri. They were married on June 21, 1980 and were blessed with twin daughters, Melissa and Christina. The family made their home in Chariton where they raised their daughters. He worked for Hy-Vee in the maintenance department for many years. Many of his friends knew him as Snort'n Norton. He enjoyed raising and showing horses, going to auctions, never knew a stranger, and enjoyed many conversations with everyone he could. He cherished his daughters and grandchildren - his family was the greatest joy in his life. Mike passed away January 14, 2020. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Leanne; his daughter, Christina (Troy) Umbenhower of Chariton; grandchildren, Weston and Alena; son, Brandon Norton (and family) of Trenton MO; along with many relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his daughter, Melissa Norton in 2011; his parents, Wayne and Shirley Norton; and siblings: Gary Norton, Paula Constable, and Mark Norton.
