Merrietta (Curtis) Stanley, of Hamilton, Iowa, passed away on January 23, 2023, in Knoxville, Iowa.
Merrietta’s wishes were to be cremated. No services are planned at this time.
Merrietta was born on November 19, 1939, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Homer and Marjorie (Brees) Curtis. Merrietta attended Waterloo High School and graduated with the class of 1957.
Merrietta was blessed with three children, Joel, Linda, and John. She was united in marriage to Steven Stanley, Sr. on November 26, 1982, in Melcher, Iowa. They were blessed with 32 years of marriage before his passing on November 21, 2014.
Merrietta attended Indian Hills Community College and graduated with her nursing degree in 1985. Merrietta worked as a nurse for 30 years at care centers and the V.A. Hospital, she then worked at Kin Folks as a cook for several years.
Merrietta enjoyed gardening, canning, woodworking, drawing and painting with arcrylics. Her greatest joy was her family.
Merrietta is survived by her children, Linda Hinton and John (Terri) Hedrick; stepchildren, Tricia (Brad) Kirtley, Tina (Kade) Chambers, and Steve (Sheryl) Stanley, Jr. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Nancy Hinton.
Merrietta is preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Marjorie Curtis; husband, Steven Stanley, Sr.; son, Joel Hinton; grandson, Jordan Kirtley; sister, Carol Ann Ross; and mother-in-law, Marie Stanley.
