Memorials in Maurine's memory may be made to the Columbia United Methodist Church or the Columbia Fire Department.
Maurine was born on November 5, 1958, to Robert “Bob” McCorkle and Estelene (Davis) McCorkle in Knoxville, Iowa. She grew up in Columbia, Iowa and attended the Columbia School. When the Columbia School closed, she continued school at Knoxville. During her school years, she was also active in softball with the Belinda Team.
Maurine married Steve Hall in September 1976 and the couple was blessed with three children: Eric, Lisa, and Alex. The couple later divorced.
Maurine worked at Pella Corp after graduating from high school, but in the mid-eighties, she returned to help with the family hardware business, McCorkle Hardware. Being the hard worker that she was, Maurine made sure that it stayed in the family for 101 years (1919-2020) before her retirement. She enjoyed visiting with and getting to know the vendors and customers over the years. In addition to managing the hardware store, she was the Columbia Postmaster, a part-time position she held for many years.
Maurine was always an active member of the community; helping with youth group at church, volunteering at community events, and supporting the Columbia Fire Department. No matter the event in Columbia, she was an avid supporter.
In her free time, Maurine loved shopping for clothes, shoes, jewelry and purses! She loved to buy things but going on the hunt for antiques was a favorite hobby. Going out to eat with family or friends was always a joy for her as well. Maurine’s greatest love was her family, especially her grandchildren. They brought her so much joy.
Maurine passed away April 13, 2024, at the Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. She will be greatly missed by her children: Eric (Amber) Hall, Lisa (Mike) Willis, and Alex Hall; 6 grandchildren: Chloe, Garret, Connor, Camryn, Bentley, and Margaret; siblings: Karen (Steve) Van Sant, and Kent (Malane) McCorkle; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Bob and Estelene McCorkle.
