Marvin Lee Shore was born January 4, 1935 in Chariton, Iowa to Leland and Matha (Schinderling) Shore. He attended school at Alma Clay and Chariton High School graduating in 1953. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Rosie Moffet on May 23, 1954 in Williamson. They were blessed with four children: Sherry, Patty, Keith, and Tina. Marvin worked for a farmer making their first home in Nebraska. They then moved to Beaman, Iowa. He worked as a mechanic at Hines-Westberg in Knoxville and eventually ran Shore's Conoco on the Williamson corner through the 60's. Young men from that area remember pulling into the station to put in $1.00 worth of gas. He fixed tires and worked 7 days a week in the shop to provide for the family during some lean years. He took over his parent's farm south of Chariton in the late 60's. He raised cattle and enjoyed horses until the time of his death. During his years on the farm, he carried rural mail on route 3 in Chariton retiring in 1994. He enjoyed his family, camping, fishing and attending music festivals. He loved horses and always had some for the grandchildren to ride. Children on his mail route would run to meet him because he teased and enjoyed each of them in a special way. At Christmas, he would ask Rosie to wrap individual candy bars and personalize them with names of every child on the route. She would spend hours wrapping them for him to give. His grandchildren will remember his humor, teasing, joking, and going out of his way to scare them in some way during their visits to the farm. He enjoyed telling them of the Wampus cat that lived in the barn and roamed the outside. It was his way of keeping them out of the haymow. If kids entered the cave house, he loved going topside to "growl" down the vent pipe. Kids who knew him would have been disappointed with anything less. Marvin passed away September 29, 2015 at the Legacy Lodge. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Rosie; children: Sherry (Emery) McDonald of Chariton, Patty (Len) Kohlman of Williamson, Keith (Ann) Shore of St. Joseph, MO, and Tina (Evan) Schreyer of Eureka, IL; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and a great great grandson. Along with sister, Linda (Darrel) Greubel of Chariton; and nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Visitation
