Martha Marie Wilson passed away September 13, 2015 at the Comfort House in Pella at the age of 86 years. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held Tuesday, September 15th from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas. Burial will be at a later date at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Comfort House Hospice in Pella. Martha Marie Sylvara was born on December 12, 1928 to Roy and Katherine (Storm) Sylvara in Woodburn, Iowa. She attended Chariton High School where she played trombone in the band. She graduated from CHS in 1947. Martha met a boy named Marvin Wilson at a dance. Marvin had taken a date to a dance and Martha just happened to be there also. Marvin had a friend take his date home so that he could take Martha home. The couple was married on June 4, 1949 in Pleasantville, Iowa. To this union, five children were born: Kenneth Ray, Cynthia Kay, Diana Lynne, Mary Katherine, and Tammie Marie. Martha was a very loving mother and enjoyed being able to stay home with her children. She was also blessed with fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was a very involved grandma and loved to go to their sporting events. Martha was a talented cook and baker. Her raisin cremes were a family favorite. The older grand kids will remember grandma putting the duck apron on them so that they wouldn't get food on their clothes. Martha was very close with her siblings. She considered her sister, Marlene, to be her very best friend. She also loved her sister Olive. Martha had a wonderful sense of humor and her smile will be missed by many. Preceding her in death were her husband, Marvin; her son, Kenneth Ray Wilson; and siblings: Mable Starkey, Clara Justus, Marvin "Pete" Sylvara, Marion Sylvara (in infancy) and three other infant brothers whose names are unknown. Surviving are her daughters: Cindy (Dennis) Clark of Oceanside, CA, Diana (Wade) DeHeer of Melcher-Dallas, Mary (Dennis) Piagentini of Knoxville, and Tammie Kibbie of Des Moines; 14 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters: Marlene Carroll, 96, of Texas and Olive Woods, 93, of Missouri; and many special nieces and nephews including a very close niece, Margaret Ann "Maggi" Carroll.
