Mark William Snider was born on August 15, 1956, in Norwood, Iowa, to Wayne and Arlene (Williams) Snider. He passed away on October 13, 2023, at his home in Chariton at the age of 67.
Mark attended Norwood Country school. His classmates have said he was a master of reciting math facts and especially good at memorization. He was known for his sweet smile.
In his young adult years Mark worked for Tenco and Mosaic doing a variety of things. Some of his favorites were sorting pop cans, making mouse traps and shredding paper. He also attended Mrs. Kridelbaugh’s Sunday School class at First Baptist Church.
Most recently, Mark was a member of Optimae Life Services CCIP program and participated in various activities in the community. He enjoyed bingo on Tuesday nights at the Senior Center, going to the movies, and could not pass up the chance to eat a Hardee’s hamburger or a Milky Way candy bar. He often could be found playing games with friends including Farkle and UNO.
Mark was a man of routine and those caring for him went by his schedule with little room for deviation. He will be remembered for his love of trains, “The Three Stooges”, and “I Love Lucy.” His ability to recall the birthdays of anyone he met was extraordinary. He loved music and daily would sing “Love is a Many Splendored Thing” by Andy Williams. He loved unwrapping gifts and Christmas truly was “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” for him.
Mark will be missed by his caregivers: sister-in-law, Donnell Snider & niece Amanda Snider (Wes Atwood); his special friends Carrie (Bob) Marts; brother, Kelly (Rania) Snider all of Chariton; his sister Cherie Albertson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, sister Terri (Mike) McCurdy of Zearing, IA. Many nieces and nephews including Lee Snider, Ann Snider, Adriana Ruiz, Mileena Miranda, Julian Ruiz, Daniel Ruiz, Shayne Ruiz, Samantha McCurdy and Stephen (Kourtney) McCurdy as well as many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather Joe Deney, as well as his brother Randy, and infant niece Alexa McCurdy.
The family would like to thank Mark’s care team: Michelle Wessel and all staff at Optimae Life Services, Caregivers Home Health, and Lucas County Health Center for optimizing Mark’s quality of life.
