Born April 15, 1943, near Lacona, Iowa to Gervase and Esther Konrad Ripperger. She was raised in Lacona with her siblings: Ron, Linda, Doug, and Mary. Attending Southeast Warren Schools with the Class of 1961.

Marilyn married Wayne Schurman in July of 1960, and they were blessed with five children: Marcia, Marty, Shelly, Jolene, and Jackie. Marilyn enjoyed raising her family and was able to stay at home when her children were young. She worked for Gross-Galesburg in Chariton; she then began working for American Republic Insurance Company in 1977. Retiring in 2005, Marilyn found her passion for traveling. She traveled to or through all 50 states and parts of Europe and China. She loved doing this with her family. Many times, traveling with her children and her siblings.

Marilyn continued to stay busy, her kids had a running joke that she was a Nanny and a Carny. She enjoyed helping the Ford family with their children and really enjoyed selling corn dogs while working for McConnell Concessions.  Garage sales were lots of fun as she enjoyed the rare finds and even more enjoyed the thrill of bargaining for a better price.  Of course, she adored her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and loved to attend their events. Holidays and family gatherings were highlights for Marilyn when all of the family were able to be together.  She loved watching the Hawkeyes and the Cubs; playing any kind of card game and dominos. Marilyn was very crafty and made many cross-stitch quilts, giving children and  grandchildren many special keepsakes over the years.

Marilyn will be missed on the streets of Lacona, cruising around on the golf cart, always quick with a smile or lending a hand with any project. She will be missed as president of the library board and many other essential roles she helped within the community.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Wayne, and son, Marty.

She will be greatly missed by her children: Marcia (David) Krieger, Shelly (Dave) Reynolds, Jolene Schurman, and Jackie (Dave) Squier; grandchildren: Cody (April) Reynolds, Bart (Jordynn) Stanley, Chase (Sammy) Reynolds, and Casey (Maggie) Dollison; great grandchildren: Lola, Theo, Gretta, Jayna, and Brynn; siblings: Ron Ripperger, Linda (Jerry) Schurman, Doug (Carol) Ripperger, and Mary (Scott) Huston; along with many relatives and friends.
