Marilyn Kay (Hugunin) Hydrick, aged 83, of Pleasant Hill, IA, passed away on March 29, 2024, following a sudden hemorrhagic stroke, leaving her family profoundly saddened by the unexpected loss. A memorial funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Oakwood United Methodist Church in Pleasant Hill, Iowa, preceded by a visitation at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow the service.
Born on January 7, 1941, to Roy and Eva (Godfrey) Hugunin, Marilyn spent her childhood on the family farm near Janesville, Wisconsin, alongside her brother, Alan. After graduating from Janesville High School in 1959, she pursued her passion for education at the University of Wisconsin Platteville, earning a degree in Elementary Education in 1963. Marilyn's life took a momentous turn when she met Herb Hydrick while teaching in Sacramento, California. They exchanged vows in 1969, establishing their home in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area.
In 1971, Marilyn and Herb welcomed twins, Jenny and Jeffrey, which prompted a move to Union Grove, Wisconsin. Marilyn dedicated herself to raising their children while Herb managed the Ford dealership they owned. Later, she resumed her teaching career, positively impacting the lives of third-grade students at Cooper School in Burlington, Wisconsin, for 16 years. Marilyn's commitment to education was further evidenced by her pursuit of a Master's Degree in Education from Aurora University, which she earned in 1993.
Marilyn retired from teaching in 1999. After selling the dealership, Marilyn and Herb retired to the Ozarks in Missouri. Living by the lake, they savored the tranquil moments of retirement until Herb's passing in 2009. Subsequently, Marilyn relocated to Pleasant Hill, Iowa, to be close to her daughter.
Marilyn's zest for life was evident in her love for physical activity, especially walking. She had a green thumb and could bring life to any plant she tended. Her nurturing spirit extended far beyond her plants, as she dedicated countless hours to volunteer service, leaving a lasting impact on the communities where she lived. She will be remembered fondly for her vibrant spirit and her genuine love for socializing. Her love knew no bounds, especially when it came to her children and grandchildren, whom she cherished dearly. Above all, Marilyn's unwavering faith in the Lord guided her every step, providing her with strength and solace throughout her journey. Though she will be greatly missed, her love, kindness, and devotion will continue to blossom in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Survivors include her daughter, Jenny (Kevin) Sinclair of Carlisle, Iowa and Jeffrey (Jennifer Plitsch) Hydrick of Arlington, Virginia; grandchildren, Jacob (Madison Mueller), Joshua, and Jordan Lawless, Sarah Sinclair, Ryan, Lauren, and Matthew Hydrick; sister-in-law, JoAnne Hugunin; brother-in-law, Thomas Hydrick; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in her name to the Oakwood United Methodist Church.
