Marilyn Ann Jones

Marilyn Ann Hickenlooper Jones, age 91, passed away on May 25, 2022, at Clarinda Regional Health Center. Funeral services will be held on July 16, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the Chariton Christian Church – Disciples of Christ in Chariton, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held 9:30-10:30 a.m. preceding her service. A private graveside service will be held after the funeral. Memorials may be directed to Chariton Christian Church – Disciples of Christ in Chariton, Iowa.

Marilyn Ann Hickenlooper was born August 21, 1930, in Albia, Iowa to Carl and Mildred Hickenlooper. She graduated from Albia High School and went on to obtain a teaching degree from Simpson College. At the age of 22, Marilyn was united in marriage to Thomas Jones, and they were blessed to enjoy 65 years together. They started married life in Knoxville, Iowa and then moved to Chariton, Iowa where they lived for over 50 years. They were blessed with two children, Miki Jones Sperry and Martin Jones.

Marilyn was an avid reader and especially loved reading recipes and sharing them with friends and family. She loved sports and could name players and coaches for almost every basketball and football team. Marilyn had a strong faith. She loved people and was a fiercely loyal friend to many. But, most of all, Marilyn loved her family. Marilyn lived a generous life as a supportive wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, brother-in-law, and nephew.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Miki Sperry and husband Dave of Clarinda, Iowa; son, Martin Jones and wife Becky of Maryville, Missouri; grandchildren: Morgan Sperry (Vince Knapp), Kelen Sperry (Sarah), Whitney Markut (Cory), Malorie Hall (Brad), and Genesee Jones; great grandchildren: Addie, Sydney, Landry, Gentry, Xander, Liam, Emery, and Holden; two nieces; and other relatives and many friends.
