Margaret Hannam

Margaret Hannam, age 94, of Melrose, Iowa, died Monday, June 4, 2007 at the home of her granddaughter in West Des Moines, with her family by her side. Margaret was born on July 19, 1912 in Melrose to Margaret (Murray) Barry and Stephen S. Barry. Her mother died during childbirth so Margaret was raised by her maternal grandparents, Thomas and Mary (Naughton) Murray. Margaret graduated from Melrose High School with the class of 1929. She was a member of St. Patrick?s Catholic Church, the Altar Rosary Society, and the Holy Family Prayer Group. On November 16, 1931, Margaret Barry and Paul Hannam were united in marriage at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Melrose. They were blessed with four children, Pauline Carol, Bette Rae, and Barry. Margaret was a homemaker all her life, working at the Lucas County Hospital in Chariton, IA after her children were raised. She retired from the hospital. Margaret is survived by her son-in-law Lloyd McDowell (Deanie); daughters, Carol (Bernard) Scieszinski, Bette Rae (Danny) Papich and son Barry (Sherry) Hannam. Also her eleven grandchildren; Paula DeVore, Mary Murphy, Barry Scieszinski, Diana Calhoun, Maria Wittern, Dave Papich, Tom Papich, Danny Hannam, Beth Crutchfield, Dave Hannam and Steve Hannam, and their spouses; twenty-one great grandchildren,and five great great grandchildren. Also surviving are many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul; daughter, Pauline McDowell; grandson, Dean McDowell and great grandsons William Murphy and Gabriel Hannam. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 7, 2007 at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Robert Lathrop officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose. Visitation will be at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Melrose on Wednesday June 6, 2007 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present. There will also be a 7:00 p.m. Rosary/Service at the church. Memorials and Masses may be made to St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Melrose, IA in Margaret?s name.
