Services for Margaret F. White, 95 of Chariton, will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Grace Baptist Church in Chariton. Family will receive friends prior to the service, from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m.. Memorials may be made to the Chariton Specialty Care Activity Fund. Margaret was born April 27, 1924 to Perry and Lillith Purdy in Guthrie Center, Iowa. She was one of eleven children born to the couple. Early on, her father gave her the nickname "Stormy" because of her stormy moods. Margaret was active in cheerleading while attending Guthrie Center High School. She also played the clarinet in the high school band and managed the girls' basketball team. In 1944, Margaret was united in marriage to Russell Machovec. The couple was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Donna Jean. The family moved to California. Margaret became quite the seamstress. She sewed uniforms for soldiers during WWII and continued sewing throughout her lifetime. Russell passed away in 1958. On September 19, 1961, Margaret was united in marriage to William E. White in California. Margaret enjoyed living in California and traveling with Bill in their motor home. After Bill passed away in 1992, Margaret moved back to Iowa. Margaret moved to Arizona for a time to be closer to her daughter. In 2008, she moved to Chariton, Iowa. In addition to her seamstress work, Margaret stayed busy crocheting and knitting. She also enjoyed polka dancing and spending time with family and friends. In 2017, Margaret moved to Chariton Specialty Care. The staff took great care of Margaret and she really enjoyed her time there. She was very social and always looked forward to the group activities; especially the crafts, the puzzles, bingo, and bowling. Margaret passed away October 26, 2019 at the age of 95. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Jean (Dave) Machovec-Crook of Arizona; brothers, Keith Purdy and Phil (Carol) Purdy; along with nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell Machovec in 1958; husband, William E. White in 1992; and siblings: Lorna Nesselroad, Lois Knight, Gail Purdy, Gertrude McCullough, Frances Popoff, Wayne Purdy, Roger Purdy, and Max Purdy. Visitation
