Margaret Louise (Smith) Curtis passed away October 22, 2022, at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola, Iowa. Services will be held on Friday, October 28, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Chariton Fire Department or Southern Hills Activity Department.
Margaret was born December 5, 1931, to Monte C. Smith and Martha Marie (Ambelang) Smith. She lived all her life in Lucas County until she went to Southern Hills. She married Eldon D. Curtis on July 8, 1949, in Russell, Iowa after meeting on a blind date.
Margaret enjoyed taking the girls to horse shows and going trail riding with their families over the years. Eldon and Margaret wintered in Texas for many years also traveling through many states on their ventures. She spent a lot of time reading and playing card games. She enjoyed cooking, especially chicken and noodles for the grandkids.
Margaret is survived by her daughters: Pam Davis, Peggy (Paul) Peterson, Kathie (Leo) Stevenson; son-in-law, Mike Bingham; sister, Ruth (Don) Argenta; sister-in-law, Connie Smith; grandchildren: Bill (Lisa) Bingham, Scott Bingham, Jamie Bingham, Michelle Davis, Martha (Mike) Tompkins, Darcy (Eric) Larson, Tracie (James) Miller, Matthew (Amanda) Peterson, Curt Stevenson, Travis Stevenson, and Amber (Eric) Hall; 26 great grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Eldon; daughter, Pat; parents, Monte and Martha; brothers, Burdette and Dave Smith; and son-in-law, Gene Davis.
