Malcolm "Mal" Donavan Thompson

Services for Malcolm “Mal” Thompson, 24, of Des Moines, Iowa will be held Thursday, December 8, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton, Iowa, with interment following at the Chariton Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in care of Mal’s family to be used for expenses.

Malcolm Donavan Thompson was born on June 2, 1998, in Chariton, Iowa to Henry Junior Thompson III and Christine Diana Vairo. Mal grew up in Chariton, graduating from Chariton High School with the class of 2017.

Mal was a one-of-a-kind, unique kid. From a very early age, his faith was important to him. He would often ask his friends to come over and pray with him. He did a lot of journaling and reading the bible. He had the desire to be a missionary.

Mal was a wonderful father to his son, Malcolm Donavan Wesley Thompson, Jr. It left a huge void in Mal’s life when Malcolm Jr. passed away.

Mal had a competitive side which he expressed when playing Xbox with his brother. He was always a great listener, very caring and kind. He was loved by many people, and to those people, he was counted on as a true friend.

Mal’s charm and contagious smile could light up any room. He was always trying to lift others up, and his presence was a gift to everyone who knew him. You could always count on him being a protector to all those close to him, especially his mother, Christine. If any of his friends were having problems in any way, he would tell them to come on over and talk to his mom. He had such a loving heart.

Malcolm will be dearly missed by his mother, Christine Vairo; siblings: Jenny Demichelis, Curtis Demichelis, Travis Demichelis, and Travon Thompson; half-siblings: Dustin Goben, Corey Taylor, Montez Thompson, Amber Taylor, and Temish Thompson; along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Malcolm Donavan Wesley Thompson Jr.; father, Henry Thompson III; brother, Johnny Goodsell; and half-brother, Henry Thompson IV.
